Well howdy, everyone! We are Annette and Patrick Durkin, welcome to our website. It is within these pages you will discover our (mis)adventures every time we pack up and head out to travel the world. We have no plans, no goals like so many others when it comes to traveling. If push comes to shove, and we HAD to state a goal, I guess it would be our intention of searching out awesome beaches where my wife can lay out and soak up the sun while I go under the waves and explore a world hidden to most.

Let’s start with Annette. My wife is a hair stylist, with a large clientele and a lot of busy days because of it. Not that she’s upset by that, but you can understand the need to get away and relax. She is also an Educator for a company called Head Shape Matters, or HSM for short.

That just leaves me. I am the dutiful husband, Patrick. A chef by trade, I currently work as the Food & Beverage Director for a wonderful local company here is Lincoln, NE. Our restaurants include several Honest Abe Burgers & Freedom locations as well as Sebastian’s Table, a Spanish tapas inspired experience.

Unlike my lovely wife, I can only sit around on the beach for so long reading and drinking before I get totally bored. Because of this and the proximity to open water, I decided I would learn how to scuba dive…game changer! Spending time underwater is an unforgettable feeling and experience. I wish I had done this sooner.

I suppose I should also give a shout out to our two boys, Finbar McCool and Manannán mac Lir. Big Irish names, small loveable dogs…

So why did we create this website? There’s two answers to that. First and foremost, it gives us an all-in-one location to unpack our adventures for friends and family to read and see. Instead of posting sporadically on Facebook or trying to send photos and video to people, we thought it would be easiest to have one location that everyone could come to, at their leisure, for updates and a few laughs. Every year (mostly) we send out a Christmas or “year in review” letter to everyone. It takes some time getting it printed, stuffed in envelopes and sent out. Apparently I married into a lot of friends. We sent out a lot of letters…but not anymore! Now I upload it to our Christmas page and everyone can access it and read how I managed to embarrass myself this year.
